What is a dental exam & why are exams important?

Dental Exams are done by dentists and dental hygienists for early protection to a person’s oral health. Oral health is one of the most important aspects of overall health and wellness. Although, oral wellness typically is overlooked, especially routine dental exams. Our staff recommends coming to our office every 6 months for a routine dental exam.

Routine dental exams examine a person’s oral hygiene and wellness. This is done to prevent potential issues from arising or getting worse over time. Some issues that can be detected early include tooth decay, cavities, gum diseases, and oral cancer. Identifying and allowing our team to help you with these dental problems early enough can increase a patient’s chances of a successful treatment.

What to expect during your exam at Advanced Family Dentistry?

During the duration of your dental exam, our dentists and dental hygienists will collect all important medical history, to discover more about your oral health and hygiene. After collecting all necessary information to give you a proper examination, our dental staff will then begin the examination of your teeth, gums, jaw, and supporting structure. X-Rays are vital to the process of dental exams. Our dental staff use a patient’s X-Rays for detection of abnormalities that are not visible with the naked eye. While performing your dental exam, our staff will then move forward to removing tartar build up that is on your teeth. During the cleaning, we will polish the teeth and discuss education on how to better care for your oral hygiene through flossing and brushing techniques.
