Why are Deep Cleanings beneficial?
Dental cleanings are beneficial for those who have gum disease or see that their teeth have receding gums, a space greater than 5 mm deep from teeth to gum. The benefits of deep cleanings include but are not limited to stopping the advancement of gum disease, treating a current oral infection to promote proper oral healing, cleaning teeth below and above the gumline, eliminating bad breath, and protecting the roots of a patient’s teeth.
What to expect during a deep cleaning?
While a routine teeth cleaning removes plaque and tartar from above the gumline, a deep cleaning focuses on removing plaque and tartar from below the gumline. At Advanced Family Dentistry, patients will be scheduled for two deep cleaning appointments. During these cleanings, patients will be sedated or numbed so that the cleaning doesn’t interfere with their treatment. Following the two deep cleaning appointments, will be routine periodontal maintenance.
