What are MADs?
The MAD sleep appliance, also known as a mandibular advancement device, can assist in the treatment of sleep apnea. Many say that this device works better or the same as a CPAP. The MAD sleep appliance is customizable to a patient’s mouth, allowing the best comfort for the best results. MADs are anti-snoring mouthpieces designed to physically move the jaw to the correct position to expand a patient’s airway. The MADs are designed with trays to fit your upper and lower teeth, with bands to use for adjustment levels.

MADs vs. CPAP
A CPAP involves a machine that captures air and pressurizes it for prescribed levels of airflow. Patients that use a CPAP machine will use a machine attached to a mask with a thin tube. CPAPs require a prescription to purchase. Many find the fitting of the masks to be awkward and uncomfortable. Others agree that the noise of the CPAP machine is loud, and that the equipment is expensive. MADs are more comfortable for patient use and less disruptive to sleep.
